Ford and I shared a room that first night. I set my things up and thanks to the Wiesner-Velillas (or devil dog), Luke, and Benihana, I have a nice little corner for when I get home sick...
We were both so
anxious and excited we could not fall asleep… It seems like as soon as we went
to sleep I was right back up and ready to go adventure. We got up, got ready,
and went downstairs for our breakfast. We had the choice of American, Asian, or
Continental. A little skeptical of our choices we picked American… which was
nothing close to American at all. It was some sort of weird sausage, some ham,
a microwaved egg, and some toast. After a worthless attempt to eat it we went
upstairs and I skyped with John and Luke! What a wonderful part of my day.
While Skyping I got a knock on my door; it was two other
girls who are also here with my program, Jessica and Annie. We decided we
should all go venture together. We went to the lobby where a really nice recepcionist told us
where everything was. She suggested we go to the weekend market, the largest
street market in Bangkok. In the meantime we saw this familiar guy checking in,
it was Zack, another member of our group. He decided to join us and we took off
on our adventure.
We took the skyrail to the street market. This was my first
Thai venture. It was crowded with people, both local and tourists. There was
all kinds of food being cooked everywhere and all sorts of goods being sold for
a fraction of the price on the street. The smells bothered the hell out of me and some of the sights were not too easy on the eyes either. Lets just say pig balls in soup and I-dont-know-what-it-is but it is fried so I am going to eat it was not very appealing.
A little skeptical about the food and not wanting to get
sick (or maybe just being an incredibly picky eater), I only got water and some
mango. My friends got all sorts of other good food and we sat at the park to
have a picnic. I do have to say that regardless of how picky I am I tried everything they ordered.
When we were done we headed back to the hotel, we wanted to
make sure no one else had arrived and if they had we wanted to check if they
wanted to come venture with us.
We found that our entire group had arrived
and most of them wanted to come and check out a few places around. We went to
the bank and run a few errands and then headed to the IT mall… This thing was
huge! All legal and illegal! The coolest part by far was that they were having
robot competitions, so weird but so cool.
By the end of our mission it was too many people to decide
what to do so we split up. Annie, Jess, and I went to look for a massage parlor
and the rest went and did their thing. After looking at a few options we picked
the most inexpensive yet decent looking one it cost us 300 or 10 dollars for an
hour of a Thai massage. It was wonderful, we got to lay in three beds next to
each other on the ground. I was in the middle and had the only guy (kinda awkward),
but I survived. I wasn’t feeling too well and right after my massage I had to
run to the bathroom and threw up L…
The perfect indication that it was going to be a horrible night.
